Solutions to Dry Skin for the Coming Winter

Solutions to Dry Skin for the Coming Winter 1024 538 Community Clinical Pharmacy

Compounded and customized treatments may be just what you need to beat even the driest of skin.

While some days the sun blazes so hot that it’s hard to tell, we are officially coming upon winter. The new season brings shorter days, boots and scarves, and pumpkin-flavored everything. It also brings incredibly, fantastically chapped lips and dry skin. COVID-19 may curb some of the Arizona-winter experience this year, but the dry cold leaves us as ashy as ever. So what do we do when, even as we type blogs about winter, each keystroke makes the dry, cracked skin under our fingernails bleed?

We moisturize, of course! And to get the best bang for our buck, we go with pharmaceutical-grade products compounded just for us by people who not only know what they’re doing, but also know what we’re going through.

Options for Better and Healthier Skin

What person isn’t just a little bit relieved that face masks are mandatory when they look in the mirror and see flakes falling from their chapped lips? And did you know that some lip balms only make your lips drier as they evaporate? It can be a vicious cycle. One solution is to get a compounded lip balm that has active ingredients to actually fight dryness rather than slapping on a film of moisture as a temporary relief. We make lip balms or gels that have combinations of Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Lipoic Acid, Hydrocortisone, and sunscreen elements to help heal and soothe the thin, sensitive skin as well as bring moisture to the area.

Or maybe your problem area is a little farther north. Maybe you look stunning in your black sweater or that little black dress or that black blouse with the neckline that shows off your collarbone, but all dark items of clothing are off-limits because of the personal snowstorm of dry skin shedding from your scalp. We’ve all been there, but that doesn’t mean we have to suffer through it. We make a prescription-strength Salicylic Acid Scalp Lotion to help fight the dandruff and moisturize the area.

Then again, dry, ashy skin isn’t usually limited to just one area. Sometimes a leg or arm can look more like a map of the Sahara than a human limb. Sometimes a heel is so cracked and hard the soles of our shoes seem soft by comparison. For ultra-moisture and to relieve the build-up of dead skin cells, we compound various strengths of Urea Gel and Urea lotion. We can even put the Urea in Pracasil which, yes, locks in moisture, but as an added benefit also works to reduce the appearance of scars.
