Essential Oils may help heal the mind and body
How essential oils can help your ailment.
Essential Oils: Historically Stays Relevant
There aren’t many ancient medical practices that have withstood the test of time. Mercury-filled elixirs and trepanation have faded into the ‘What were we thinking?’ chapter of medical history and bloodletting is so 19th century. Medical science is constantly advancing, and society adjusts its treatments accordingly. There is one ancient practice, however, that has stayed relevant throughout thousands of years of usage: essential oils.
So what exactly are essential oils, and why the sudden re-interest in them? Whether you have an essential oil black-belt or your experience is limited to the calming feeling of smelling a rose, below is a quick overview of the what, why, and how of this age-old therapy.

Ancient Egypt, China, and India all used essential oils extensively, and Rome, Greece, and Persia followed suit. In recent years, essential oils have regained popularity, albeit with an updated distilling process and more refined final products than their ancient counterparts.
And while modern science has ruled other previously practiced medical procedures as ineffective, outdated, or even harmful, the research done on essential oils, though limited, points to their positive effects for a number of different ailments.
Community Clinical Pharmacy is a local compounding pharmacy located in Mesa, Arizona. Private consultations are available regarding utilizing Essential Oils and/or other options in treatment for your ailments. CCRx Pharmacists are experts that work with your doctor to find the best fit, for any condition.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are naturally occurring oils that are extracted from plants using a variety of methods, the most common of which is distillation. They are super-concentrated volatile compounds that retain the original plant’s fragrance and properties.

Of course, as with any new therapy, it is important to do the necessary research before embarking on a new treatment plan. Check in with your healthcare provider to see if essential oils might be a viable option for your unique case.
What Are Essential Oils Used For?
There are literally hundreds of ailments that people claim to have been cured or at least mitigated by essential oils, with varying degrees of research to back them up. The most common conditions (and also the most researched) for which essential oils are used include:
- Restlessness
- Sleep Deprivation
- Anxiety
- Acne
- Headaches or migraine
- Low energy
- Poor digestion
- Poor focus

Does it matter what brand I buy?
Because essential oils are not regulated, there’s a lot of room for variation between brands. Examine the label for things like the botanical name, expiration date, and country of origin. It’s usually better to spend a little more money on quality, trusted brands than throwing away money on the too-good-to-be-true deals.
Are essential oils safe?
Allergic reactions, chemical burns, and respiratory problems are all risks when using essential oils. That being said, most side effects occur when the essential oils are not being used properly. When they are used responsibly and as directed, side effects are negligible. (Side note: pregnant or nursing mothers should exercise caution and avoid using essential oils unless otherwise instructed by a healthcare professional.)
How do you use essential oils?
Essential oils can be used aromatically, topically, or even internally. The method of delivery will depend on the oil itself as well as the effect you are trying to achieve. For instance, lavender for sleep should be used aromatically with a diffuser while lavender for burns should be used topically. Keep in mind that not all oils are meant to be inhaled just as not all oils should be applied to the skin. And never, ever ingest an essential oil unless it is very specifically made for that purpose and you have checked with a healthcare provider. Check the labelling of each essential oil and don’t go beyond its intended purpose.

Where can I buy essential oils?
Essential oils can be purchased online, at events, or at a local health store or pharmacy. If you want to stop in to Community Clinical Pharmacy to examine our selection of essential oils, you’ll have the added benefit of being able to consult with a pharmacist before making a purchase.
As the focus on more holistic treatments gains ground in the medical community, essential oils will no doubt continue their comeback into society. As their usage increases, research and refinements are sure to follow. Responsibly incorporating essential oils into your life can mean a variety of benefits now and perhaps even more in the future because, if history is any indicator, this is one therapy that isn’t going anywhere for quite some time.

This discrepancy is not only highlighted in the media, but it is clear that it translates through the pharmaceutical industry, where commercially available products for men’s sexual health are aplenty, while products for female sexual satisfaction are limited.
